Abstract:
Carol Jones is an IBM Fellow and distinguished engineer in the IBM Software Group and the architect who led the startup of well-known products such as IBM WebSphere® Portal, IBM Workplace™ Services Express, WebSphere Studio, and WebSphere Application Server.
She talks about her work with and exploration of new technologies related to Web 2.0, social networking, and collaboration. She talks about the subtle refinement of software design and the use of certain technologies that is driving this evolution of Web-based collaboration. Examples of the friction between work models and the tools we use are mentioned, as well as solutions in the works utilizing real-time communication, activity-based computing, and social bookmarking.
