Irene Greif directs the Collaborative User Experience Research, an IBM Research group located in Cambridge, where Irene also has responsibility for a central Lotus product design group. Both groups work closely with Lotus product teams, transferring technology as well as design methodologies and user study results. Irene joined Lotus in 1987. Before that she was a faculty member of Computer Science at University of Washington and of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT. She headed a research group in the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science which developed shared calendar, co-authoring and real-time collaboration systems. She is a fellow of both the Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Association of Computing Machinery (ACM.) Irene was inducted into the Women In Technology International (WITI) Hall of Fame in 2000.
Dan Gruen is co-founder of the Strategic Design Lab in Lotus Research. His work , surrounds the use of visual scenarios and other story-based methods to ground , design in real world situations of use. Dan applies his background in user , centered design and experience with observational methods to a variety of , areas, including portable devices, new approaches to email and integrated , messaging, tools to help people manage multiple activities, and innovative ways , of linking computer-based information with the external world., Dan joined Lotus in October, 1996 with a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science at the , University of California, San Diego. Dan has consulted on usability and , interface-design for a variety of applications, including digital television, , telecommunications, and computer-assisted design. He has also taught courses on , user centered design techniques in university and corporate settings. , Previously, Dan served as a Vice President at Merrill Lynch where he designed , and implemented trading support systems.
