Subject: Invitation

Dear Prof. Nastansky

Knowing that you and your research team have been doing great works on knowledge management related research, such as K-Discovery, GroupProcess, Semantic Surfer, I would like to invite you to contribute your research results to the section, Data Mining for Knowledge Management in EURO/ INFORMS Joint International Meeting, July 06~10, 2003, IstanbulTurkey.

The followings are related information for you to know about this annual meeting.   Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this invitation.

A topic area in Data Mining for Knowledge Management is organized in one or two sections on EURO/INFORMS 2003.  These sections serve as a forum for the presentation and discussion of the linkage of data mining with knowledge management.  Research works dealing with issues in developing or evaluating data mining techniques for knowledge management related applications are welcome to submit for presentation. Data mining techniques here are broadly referring to knowledge discovery in databases, text mining, web mining, etc.  Knowledge management can be viewed in different granularities, such as personal, group, organizational, and inter-organizational.  The methods used can range from system development to empirical studies; from quantitative to qualitative; from field studies to theoretical descriptions; from lab experiments to case studies.

Possible topics may include (but are not limited to):

l          Data/ text mining challenges and opportunities for knowledge management

l          Data/ text mining for group collaboration in the virtual work environment

l          Data/text mining for knowledge management in communities of practices

l          Data/ text mining for organizational learning

l          Knowledge network analysis for tacit knowledge management

l          Data/text mining for knowledge categorization, retrieval, and evolution

l          Data/text mining for managing dynamic workflow knowledge

The further information regarding EURO/INFORMS can be found at web site (http://www.istanbul2003.org/)

If you are interested in submitting a paper in this topic area, please contact Fu-ren Lin furenlin@uiuc.edu) for the detailed submission procedure by November 30, 2002.
